About Pearson Bruhns
Coach Pearson has 2 years of racing on the Mountain Bike National Circuit. In his second year he earned an 8th place finish in the 2025 XCM National Championship. During Pearson's journey in cycling he has grown from an everyday middle and high school athlete racing in local NICA and small regional races to competing in the Varsity Collegiate Division and podiuming across multiple racing disciplines. Pearson’s interest in coaching grew from his own search for a coach who understood his goals and valued science-backed training methods. During his journey he deepened his knowledge through completion of multiple coach and cycling courses, studied dozens of books, and countless training articles to continuously learn and keep digging deeper into cycling and sports performance. Pearson now shares that experience with others who are in a similar position and helps them reach their personal best on the trail, race course, segment, or any goal they are reaching to achieve. Whether you only race mountain bikes and want to expand into gravel, road, or cyclocross; or simply striving to improve your fitness, Pearson has experience in all of these areas and can help you make those transitions.
Coach Philosophy
My coaching philosophy is centered around long-term athlete development. Success in cycling, or in anything, doesn’t happen overnight. Consistency over time is the key to improvement, and that’s the approach I take with every athlete. No two athletes are the same, so training needs to be built around each individual’s physiology, goals, schedule, and lifestyle. While podiums and wins are exciting, long-lasting success only comes from focusing on the process; setting personal goals, hitting new PRs, and controlling the things you can. Keeping the process front and center lets athletes build sustainably and avoid burnout that often comes with chasing only results. As many of my athletes are students balancing school, work, and life, I emphasize balance and sustainability in training. Training should complement, not compete with these other responsibilities. I encourage young athletes to enjoy the other activities they love whether it's hiking, running, or fishing. But learning to find the balance with those and training is important to prevent overtraining. In my own journey I am a data nerd and love being able to use data to guide training, tools like power meters and heart rate monitors allow more precise workouts and training. Progress doesn't solely depend on these devices, communication and body awareness are just as valuable. Athletes who learn their bodies and can share how they respond to training will get the most out of their programs. Communicating with the coach how they are feeling during and after training is valuable for the athlete & coach as they work together on the athlete’s goals. Ultimately, my goal is to help athletes grow stronger, more resilient, and more confident. Performance is about more than watts and race results; it's also about recovery, mindset, nutrition, and personal growth. Most of all, I want to give back to the cycling community by helping the next generation of athletes achieve their personal best.
Target Athletes
I work with endurance athletes of all abilities, from motivated beginners to competitive racers ready to reach the next level. My specialty is helping athletes who’ve started in local NICA and regional races reach the top of these areas. Or take the next step up to larger regional and national level events. Having made that same journey myself, I have firsthand experience to help guide you through it.
